Why Give?

Since its formation in the wake of Hurricane Hugo in 1990 which ravaged most of the island, the St. Croix Foundation has worked diligently and consistently to create a civic and philanthropic infrastructure that is responsive and resilient to any challenges facing the Virgin Islands. In 2020, eighteen months into the global pandemic, the St. Croix Foundation for Community Development celebrated its 30th anniversary with the Pearl Campaign. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, our small and mighty team quickly adapted virtually and emerged yet again as a regional leader in high-impact, place-based philanthropy. We continue to make inroads in every critical social arena, from education reform and homelessness to community revitalization and economic development which includes facilitating over $42 million in strategic investments. Furthermore, our holistic approach to community development has forged an impressive suite of programs comparable to organizations 10 times our size and a portfolio of 29 key partners through our nonprofit consortium.

As we look to the next 30 years we invite you, our ardent supporters, who believe in our mission to consider the St. Croix Foundation in your estate plan. The decisions we make today will determine the future of our tomorrow. Planned giving is a powerful way to ensure your philanthropic legacy beyond one’s lifetime.

Members of 1990 are inducted into the Legacy Circle and receive special invitations to events, informational sessions and the annual State of the Foundation breakfast.
