Education Policy
Since 2005, St. Croix Foundation has directed nearly $2 million in funding toward educational initiatives. But in recent years, growing incidents of crime and youth violence in our community, coupled with the academic performance of our students and rapidly shifting conditions, led us to place youth and education at the forefront of our programmatic agenda.
In 2013, the Foundation convened a Policy Mapping Steering Committee consisting of a carefully selected cross-section of our community – including business leaders, educators, and public sector agencies – to analyze and map the territory’s public policy around education. In 2017, our first policy white paper, Cracking the Code, was published reporting to our community on our research and findings relative to Virgin Islands public policy governing the structure of our education system. As ongoing work, the Foundation is finalizing the framework of our policy research around Student Support Systems to present our findings.
Today, St. Croix Foundation is incorporating our policy work into our KIDS COUNT USVI Initiative as we seek to activate data with civic engagement and policy action!
