FUNDING CRITERIA
Innovative Instruction and Professional Development Grant
Maximum Award: $7,500
Improve teacher and principal effectiveness based on performance by:
- Supporting teacher and principal exchange opportunities. (Grants will cover the cost of site visits to model schools and/or visits from master teachers’ travel to the Territory.)
- Supporting the implementation of model instructional strategies from high performing schools
- Supporting opportunities for transferring teacher/ principal learning throughout the school.
Provide effective support to teachers and principals for:
- Innovative teaching strategies which provide engaging learning experiences for students
- The implementation of Rigor/Relevance Framework projects that are embedded with challenging, real world curriculum
- Developing and implementing cross-curriculum instructional techniques for core and elective courses.
Reading Counts: Literacy Reinforcement and Assessments Grant
Maximum Award: $5,000
Implement or expand proven, results-driven literacy programming (e.g. Scholastic Reading Counts, Accelerated Reader, etc.). Program must consist of formal assessments and MUST incorporate speech, and writing as a critical extension of literacy enrichment. (Schools are encouraged to expand upon existing literacy programs.)
- Develop and implement a detailed plan on how data will be used to drive decisions for timely academic intervention
- Utilize proven assessment to demonstrate progress in raising achievement and closing gaps
Model Learning Environments Grant
Maximum Award: $2,500
- Implement and institutionalize Model School-wide Discipline Policies and Practices and proven Classroom Management Strategies (modeled after the Foundation’s Classroom Management Resource Guide)
- Must include rewards and incentives to encourage student and teacher participation
- Must also establish criteria for evaluating the impact of Classroom and School-wide discipline strategies
Mentoring and Personal Development Grant
Maximum Award: $2,500
- Collaborate with private sector and community-based entities to develop strategic partnerships that directly support mentoring opportunities for students and teachers
Develop and implement projects that provide students and educators with opportunities to interact with community partners in meaningful ways to include:
- Student internships and professional mentoring opportunities for educators
- Life skills and personal development experiences for students. (Proposals can include programming that offers innovative approaches to support the whole child, i.e. psychosocial, spiritual or physical education programming that nurtures mind, body and spirit.).
