About Us
By design, St. Croix Foundation functions as a hybrid organization, distributing funds in the form of grants and providing direct services to the community through the management of development initiatives. Operating with a small staff and limited financial resources, the Foundation has, over the years, introduced and successfully executed a number of noteworthy initiatives for the community. From youth development to community revitalization, St. Croix Foundation has positioned itself as a leader in the redevelopment of St. Croix.
The Foundation is at a pivotal juncture. By choice, the funds raised to date have not gone to creating an operating endowment, but rather have been leveraged to address critical needs in our community. Securing grant money from larger foundations to develop programs is only one challenge. We also must raise more than $500,000 annually to manage the organization. With that in mind, the Foundation’s Board of Directors formed the Council of Trustees, comprised of community minded individuals and businesses who help underwrite Foundation operations for a multi-year period.
Moving forward, endowment building is an increasingly significant goal of the Foundation’s. As we garner greater financial support from our community, more resources can be leveraged to address the ills that our government cannot remedy single-handedly.
St. Croix Foundation is a member of the Council on Foundations, the Association of Caribbean Community Foundations, the National Business Incubator Association, and the International Institute for the Development of Philanthropy.
