Welcome
Established in 1990 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, St. Croix Foundation strives to fulfill its mission of fostering economic and social development on the island of St. Croix and throughout the Territory. As a nonpartisan, nonpolitical community foundation, the St. Croix Foundation provides leadership and acts as a catalyst in bringing together diverse groups to discuss problems and forge solutions.
The creation of the St. Croix Foundation came from the inspiration of two members of our community, Phillip Gerard, longtime Crucian activist, and Michael Neuburger, retired aerospace executive. They felt that a community foundation was the vehicle needed to promote the revitalization of St. Croix, particularly in the wake of the devastation of Hurricane Hugo. They believed that a community foundation was not only an effective conduit of philanthropic donations, but, perhaps more importantly, had the organizational flexibility to take the lead in addressing the seeming intractable problems facing our community.
We are best known for our focus on the problems of community and economic development as evidenced by our major town revitalization initiatives like the rehabilitation of the Sunday Market Square. The Foundation has also successfully executed a number of noteworthy initiatives in public safety, educational enrichment, fiduciary management, and strengthening our nonprofit community.
St. Croix Foundation’s scholarship funds provide valuable enrichment opportunities for our community’s young people and educators. Learn more about the variety of funds offered and how you can apply! Click here.
